Who is behind this?

First of all there is you! You can be part of this open-source art- and theatreproject by participating:

The public art- and theatreproject "Moment of Starlings >>> SMS to 11832" is being developed by the Munich-based artist group die urbanauten for the Spielart Theater Festival in Munich, Germany (November 19th - December 5th 2009). The public art- and theaterproject "Moment of Starlings >>> SMS to 11832" is funded by the theatre programm of the Kulturreferat of the City of Munich.

What is this about!

Devoloping "urban swarms" in heavily regulated public spaces of flows are the basic strategy of the public art- und theatreproject "Moment of Starlings >>> SMS to 11832". A series of mobile and flexible "flash mobs" - choreographed using so called Blitz-SMS on the mobile phones of the participants - are the basic tactic to create unregulated social time-spaces (moments) of meaning, communication and gathering in todays public spaces.

The underlying concept and idea of the project are so called "smart mobs" of humans and societies directly connected to the Internet by mobile devices, that will become the determining sociological meta-structure in the future and will change the way we percieve and use public spaces in dramatic ways - if you haven't noticed yet ;-).

How do I participate in "Moment of Starlings >>> SMS to 11832"?

All participants in the four urban Happenings of the project "Moment of Starlings" are linked by their mobil phones and receive text messages from the swarm. The urban swarm is much more flexible than its forerunner: the rather static and shortliving flash mob. Before and after the swarm happenings, we are linked by the possibilities of the internet.

  ...ist ein Projekt der urbanauten in Zusammenarbeit mit "to whom it may concern" für das SPIELART Festival in München (19.11. - 5.12.2009) und wird unterstützt durch das Kulturreferat der Stadt München. Das Projekt "Moment of Starlings >>> Sende SMS an 11832" ist ein performatives Theaterstück im öffentlichen Raum bei dem die Zuschauer selbst zu Teilnehmern und Schauspielern werden. Für die Dauer der Performance wird das Prinzip von "Flashmobs" aufgegriffen und zu "Urbanen Schwärmen" weiterentwickelt. Mithilfe von SMS Nachrichten, welche die Teilnehmer während der Performance empfangen, wird eine Serie von Flashmobs und urbanen Interventionen im öffentlichen Raum in München koordiniert. So werden die Teilnehmer zu "Schwärmlingen" die mit ihren Aktionen die Öffentlichkeit nachhaltig irritieren. Die SMS werden in Echtzeit verfasst und verschickt. So kann der Schwarm sehr flexibel im Raum agieren und Unerwartetes Blitzschnell umgehen. Haben Sie Lust bekommen mit zu schwärmen? Registrieren Sie sich online, per Paypal oder per SMS. ... originally are a debating society based in Munich dealing with public spaces. The group was formed in 2001 at the University of Munich. After finishing there studies die urbanauten decided to continue debating but also to "make" public spaces in the way they considered them neccessarry nowadays. they use cultural events, art in public spaces, urban theater and sometimes even cool parties to reach that goal. Moment of Starlings is their latest production. ... is an international festival of contemporary theatre art in Munich, Germany. It presents artists who are willing to risk something, who use sensuality, humor and intelligence to express what is special, lively and surprising in the theatre art form. SPIELART targets audiences that want to explore their own way of seeing things and are open to new and unusual perspectives. die urbanauten have been invited to the festival to create happenings in public spaces of Munich throughout the festival.
